Earth Day is April 22, but PatientPop celebrated all month long by hosting a challenge for employees. Throughout the month of April, employees were encouraged to take part in actions that promote sustainability and were also provided with environmental education.
There were a variety of ways to earn challenge points, including walking, biking, scootering, carpooling, or taking the metro to work; planting a garden; using reusable bags at the grocery store and a reusable coffee mug at work; and going meatless on Mondays. We also had many events throughout the month in which participants could earn points by attending.
Earth Month Challenge events
We hosted two Lunch & Learns at PatientPop HQ. The first (pictured below) was to learn more about Lettuce Grow, a local company on a mission to empower everyone to grow 20 percent of their food at home. Alberto, one of their team members, showed us their impressive Farmstands and taught employees about the impact we all can have on preserving the environment.
We also hosted a team member from the Surfrider Foundation, a global organization focused on protecting our oceans and coasts. Stacie, chairwoman of the Los Angeles chapter, spoke to us about the importance of clean water and coastal preservation and shared ways to get involved locally.

We host a monthly Coffee Club as a way for PatientPop people to get to know other employees from across the organization. Our April Coffee Club had a special Earth Month theme, and participants got extra points toward the challenge if they brought their own mug or made a sign to hang around our offices to encourage recycling.

Our two most popular events of Earth Month were our beach clean up and planting event. For our beach clean up, we partnered with Heal the Bay to pick up hundreds of pieces of trash and debris from Santa Monica beach, which is just two blocks from our office.

At our planting event, employees got their very own mini PatientPop planter, where they planted seeds for flowers or herbs.

PatientPop Earth Month Challenge winners
The individual winner of the Earth Month Challenge was Michelle Pedicone, a member of our Customer Support team. Michelle, who was awarded a $100 REI gift card, had this to say about the challenge:
“Being challenged as a group was incredible. To know that everyone around me was like-minded — even for a month — and to know that there is that little edge helping everyone who participated start to unravel their habits, this feels like the way to make a real difference step by step. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of a company that cares to put something like this on.”
The Marketing Team had the greatest Earth Month Challenge participation and total points, earning them a catered picnic.
