Last month, we kicked off our second annual January Wellness Challenge. The wellness challenge is a month-long competition between employees where they can earn points for certain physical activities. Last year, we called it a “fitness challenge” but this year, we added more events and interests that promoted a more holistic wellness approach.
To earn points, employees were encouraged to work out at one of our 15 partner studios and gyms or attend “PushUpPop,” our pushup club with daily meetups at PatientPop HQ. Employees were also invited to sweat it out after work at a private CycleBar class and a BurnFitness class on the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. We even hosted an onsite circuit class from Sweat60 one evening.

However, not all activities involved breaking a sweat. Zenstop, a mobile bus that provides 10-minute guided meditations, visited PatientPop HQ one afternoon and provided some stress relief to employees through breathwork, mindfulness, and sound bath sessions.
By the end of the challenge, participants had collectively earned over 500 points. The individual with the most points at the end of the month won a $100 dollar gift card, and the team with the most points won a catered smoothie bar. Dana Ho, a member of the recruiting team, was our winner in the individual category, and the Technical Services team won for the team category.

“What I enjoyed the most about January Wellness Challenge was experiencing new health and wellness-related events with my coworkers,” Ho says. “Plus, we got to keep each other accountable with our 2020 fitness goals because health is wealth!”
In our experience, workplace wellness challenges have been a great way to encourage healthy living among employees. We believe a healthy workforce leads to a healthy business!
